NT Frost Electroplating

February 2015
Located in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham NT Frost Electroplating comprises of what used to be three different properties, of different styles. The other two companies were George Cadby & Sons, jewellers and J.Ashford & Sons, jewellers. NT Frost Electroplating brought out these two companies, along with a further adjacent two smaller properties and amalgamated them all.
Ashford & Sons started in 1842 as a 'gift toy' maker in Lionel St. In 1912 they moved into the property here, designed by Arthur McKewan. Somewhere along the way they brought out rival company Cadby's and finally closed in 1980. This is when NT Frost, who specialise in anodizing, electroplating gold and silver etc., came along.
The properties total 50'000 sq ft but only 33'000 was actual usable working space. The properties are the Asfords building, Grade II listed, the Gt Hampton St 1970's block, the Harford building, the Noel building and Cadbys old building.
NT Frost Electroplating has been running for over 100 years and still operates today, but in a new premises in Kings Norton. They are the largest independent supplier of barrel, rack and reel-to-reel strip plating to Britain and around the world.
