St Cadoc's Hospital
December 2016
St Cadoc's Hospital, built in 1906, first opened as the Newport Borough Asylum. The building was designed by Alfred J. Wood based on the the compact arrow plan. The hospital was later renamed after St Cadoc with St Cadoc's church located in nearby Caerleon, Newport. It was built to accommodate up to 350 patients. Extensive outbuildings were later added on the site but since 2005 the number of residents has been very small ever since the emphasis on Care in the Community with some wards remaining open today.
