Welton Bibby & Baron is the largest manufacturer of paper bags, carrier bags and printed paper on the roll in the UK. The company was started in 1858 as Bibby & Baron founded. In 1889 Bibby & Baron won the silver medal at the Paris Exposition for the first automated bag machine. In 1890 Bibby & Baron reveal to the world the first flexo printing press. Over a century later in 1999 the company joins the Welton Bag Company, itself created in 1934 in Welton, Somerset, and renamed as Welton Bibby and Baron. This enabled the widest possible range of paper bag manufacturing. The company relocated manufacturing to a new state-of-the-art facility in Westbury in 2013 leaving Midsomer Norton for good.
This 12 acre site in Midsomer Norton dates from 1858 and at the time of closing in 2013 employed 300 people.
